Lately, I’ve just been going through the motions. I can’t exactly say I’m bored. I think the perfect word to describe how I’ve been feeling as of late is tired. Sometimes even to the point of exhaustion. I opened up to M about wanting to shift careers but I know it’s not going to be an easy process. I am trying to be hopeful but I guess I’m still in denial because I haven’t even started looking for options yet.
Anyway, enough talk on depressing things. I may be battling some inner turmoil but to quote Alice Morse Earle, “Every day may not be good…but there’s something good in every day.” So, let’s talk about things that I’ve been loving recently and maybe some things I’m very happy to rediscover.
I just got this baby about a week ago. All thanks to M who made it possible because his girlfriend is too poor at the moment. My old laptop was dying before my eyes for over a year now and there was no way I could save it and have my sanity intact that we decided to just get me a new one. It took us about a week of googling and looking at cheaper alternatives in stores before we settled on getting this one instead of the secondhand laptop or iPad and wireless keyboard combination that we initially decided on. If I could ever love a thing more than a dark red lipstick at the moment, it’s this laptop and it’s Windows 8.1 OS (haters gonna hate?).
Despite not having a pet cat at the moment, everyone knows I’m all about cats. So when my brother and his girlfriend came home from one of their thrifting hunts and showed me this one, I admit I said ‘mine’ faster than a bullet.
I never would’ve thought I’d be the red-or-dark-lipstick-loving kind of girl. My first ever lipstick was a nude pink shade from MAX FACTOR that my mama gave me back when I was in college. I don’t even remember using it a lot because for years, the only beauty product I ever really swore on was using a black eyeliner to emulate Amy Lee’s look from Evanescence. It was only about 3 or 4 years ago that I started getting more into makeup from watching youtube videos. Back then, I was still anxious to spend more than a couple hundred on beauty products since I was still experimenting so I only ever purchased things locally or from drugstore brands. I think it was about that time too that wearing a red lipstick was starting to be a big trend here that I decided I needed one.
Red is a very scary color. It took giving myself lots of pep talk (‘It’ll be okay! They’re not really looking at you, dummy! Nothing about it is slutty!’) the first few times I wore it to not be conscious from all the looks I was getting from strangers. I did notice though that just like wearing my favorite pair of heels, I gained an extra mile of confidence whenever I used it. From then on, a red or an even darker shade has been my go-to color.
My favorite shades as of late are those two in the photo. The formula for OCC Lip Tar isn’t exactly the best for me because my lips tend to dry and get chapped easily despite applying ridiculous amounts of lip balm. It’s not at all bad though and the staying power is great. It should also be noted that the accompanying lip brush is pretty darn awesome. Between Black Dahlia and NSFW, my absolute favorite is the former. We don’t really have four calendar seasons here but ‘Go vamp or go home’ should be everyone’s mantra for fall at least.
When I was younger I always came across old people sipping one of those Lipton teas outside of their houses. I tried it once out of curiosity and found it really gross. Fast forward to now and I’m obviously singing another tune. I’ve honestly come to love tea. I love it to the point that I look at local online stores selling Royal Albert tea sets almost every single day.
My brother’s girlfriend was raving to me about Chowabungga’s new look and good food a few weeks back so I decided to give it a visit a couple days ago. I’ve only ever been to the restaurant years ago and I honestly don’t remember anything from the place except how it looks from the outside. Rediscovering it has been great though. I love the sort of modern canteen/diner look and feel they were going for. The food is great and everything on their menu is affordable. If you want to eat out and you only have a hundred or less to spare, try this place.
Last but not the least, our online shop Miss Froufrou has a new look courtesy of Made by Lai. Isn’t it lovely? I can’t gush about it enough. I talked too much again, didn’t I? haha! I actually have about 5 more things to share but I guess I’ll just do it on the next post. I may or may not talk about anime or another cat related thing I managed to get my hands on.
Hope you’re all having a good weekend! 🙂
